Isn't this incident a shame for the Mumbai police? This particular policeman has committed a very perverse and cruel act and has brought shame to us. Obviously, police as enforcers of the rule of law cannot be allowed to indulge in such criminal acts. We would like to do everything possible to ensure that such an incident never happens again. Isn't the problem of policemen being drunk on duty very common? Incidents of policemen drinking on duty is definitely not common.

However, some instances have come to light in the past and we've dealt with them very firmly. We want to send a clear signal that such indiscipline and misconduct will not be tolerated. What is your next step in this case? The culprit has been arrested and the case is being investigated by an ACP of the crime branch. The strongest possible legal and administrative action will be taken. A foolproof case will be made to convict the culprit. Our concern is to give full moral and emotional support to the victim and her family. Since the policeman has committed the crime, wives of police officers have undertaken to look after the victim's rehabilitation including counselling through professionals. Don't you think incidents like this will make women shy away from approaching police in the future? This is an isolated criminal act of a lone pervert policeman. Definitely, we would like to ensure that women are treated by all policemen with utmost consideration and care. We've been running regular sensitisation programmes.
